Frequently Asked Questions

Tree Treatment

  • In short, no. Unfortunately, like medical doctors, not every “patient” responds the same to treatment, and there can be compounding factors which make trees higher risk (think soil compaction, limited root zone, secondary pests etc.).

We will, however, work with you to identify trees that are likely to respond well to treatment, assess potential compounding factors predisposing your tree to decline or disease (and mitigation methods to address those as well), and go over expected treatment outcomes and time frames. Our treatment recommendations are based on science and the most current treatment protocols in the field, giving us high success rates.

  • Innovative Tree Care Specialists has been serving the greater Madison area since 2017. Jeff Albertini, owner and consulting arborist, has been in the arboriculture field since 2011, a certified arborist since 2012, and a licensed applicator since 2013.

  • While we do not currently offer large tree removal services, we do work closely with other companies that do. We happily refer clients to companies that we know and trust for tree removal and/or stump grinding services.

  • We base all of our tree health treatment and management plans on protocols that minimize negative environmental impacts. This commonly will include delaying a treatment until insect pollinators are less likely to be present, or by focusing on other chemical-free ways to improve tree health.

When needed, our chemical treatments are recommended responsibly and only for the time frame that they are required.

  • The best time to treat your tree depends on the condition for which we are treating.

Generally speaking, spring is the best time for preventatively treating for foliar disease, and later spring (after leaf out) is the best time for systemic injections (though these can be done throughout the growing season).

Some treatments may be based on growing degree day models to best maximize treatment efficacy, while others may be conducted anytime from ground thaw to ground freeze.

Our consulting arborist will advise you on the best time to treat your tree(s). We clearly spell out everything in our proposals.

  • Different tree conditions have different treatment protocols.

In some instances, treatment may be required annually (or multiple times annually) to keep your tree healthy. Other conditions may be treated on an “as needed” basis and may only need to be treated once for the desired results.

Our arborist will go over the treatment protocol with you, and clearly state treatment time frames and expectations in the proposal.

Financial Issues

  • We do not require any prepayments or deposits for our services. All that we require for service booking is a copy of the proposal, signed and returned.

All work is invoiced, upon completion, with NET 30 payment terms. We currently only accept check, money order or cash for payment (no credit cards please).

  • This is a loaded question, but one worth addressing!

Tree treatments start at $65 and go up from there. We base our treatment costs on a number of factors including tree size, tree species, products/chemicals needed, and approximate time it will take to complete a project.

Generally speaking, a medium-sized tree treatment (say 20.0” diameter) typically will run a couple of hundred dollars. It is worth noting that some of our treatments only need to be reapplied every 2 or 3 years, and the per/year cost is less than it may seem.

  • Yes, absolutely!  For your protection we carry full liability insurance and workman’s comp. We share copies of our insurance coverage upon request.

  • When your tree is due for re-treatment, you will automatically receive a renewal letter from our office. If anything changes in the health of your tree in the meantime, we are always happy to visit and conduct a health assessment before the scheduled re-treatment date.
